Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is a constant voltage and constant frequency UPS with energy storage device and inverter as its main component. Its main function is to provide reliable and uninterrupted power supply to computer network system or other power and electronic equipment through UPS system. When the power input is normal, UPS will supply the power to the load after stabilizing the power supply. At this time, the function of UPS is equivalent to an AC power regulator. At the same time, it also supplies power to the energy storage part of the machine. When power failure occurs, UPS immediately supplies 220 V AC to the load by inverting the stored power in the computer, which keeps the load working normally and protects the software and hardware of the load from being damaged, so that the data of the whole network will not be lost due to power failure.
Classification and Characteristics of UPS Power Supply
According to its working principle, power supply can be divided into three types: backup type, online type and online interactive type.
1. Backup UPS: Usually in the state of battery charging, when power failure, the inverter emergency switching to the working state, the DC power provided by the battery into stable AC output, backup UPS is also known as off-line UPS.
The advantages of backup UPS power supply are: high efficiency, low noise and relatively cheap price. It is mainly suitable for low fluctuation of municipal electricity and low demand for power supply quality, and it is more suitable for household use. However, the switching time of this UPS is very short, generally between 2 and 10 ms, while the switched power supply of the computer itself can maintain about 10 ms when the power is cut off, so the personal computer system will not generally have problems because of this switching time. Therefore, it is not suitable for critical places where power supply can not be interrupted. Backup UPS can only supply power for a few minutes to tens of minutes, mainly to give you time to backup data and finish the work at hand as soon as possible. Its price is relatively low, such as personal home users, can be equipped with low-power backup UPS.
2. On-line UPS: This UPS keeps its inverters in working state. First, the external AC is converted into DC through circuit, and then the DC is converted into high-quality sinusoidal AC through high-quality inverters and output to the computer. The main function of on-line UPS under power supply condition is to stabilize voltage and prevent radio interference. When the power is cut off, the standby DC power supply (battery group) is used to supply power to the inverters. Because the inverter has been working, there is no switching time problem, so it is suitable for power supply with strict requirements.
Online UPS is different from backup UPS, which lasts for a long time, usually several hours or even more. Its main function is to allow you to work as usual in case of power failure. Obviously, because of the particularity of its function, the price is obviously much more expensive. Comparatively suitable for computer, transportation, banking, securities, communications, medical, industrial control and other industries with stringent power requirements.
3. On-line interactive UPS: This is an intelligent UPS, which means that when the power supply is normally input, the UPS inverters are in reverse operation (i.e. rectifying operation) to charge the battery pack. When the power supply is abnormal, the inverters will immediately be converted into inverters, and the battery energy will be converted to AC output. Compared with the backup UPS, the online interactive UPS has stronger protection function, and the output voltage waveform of the inverters is better, generally sinusoidal. With strong software function, it can be used for remote control and intelligent management of UPS on the Internet. It can automatically detect whether the external input voltage is within the normal range. If there is a deviation, it can be boosted or lowered by a regulator to provide a relatively stable sinusoidal output voltage. Moreover, it can communicate with the computer through data interface (such as RS-232 serial port). Through monitoring software, users can monitor the power supply and UPS status directly from the computer screen, which is convenient for management and can improve the reliability of the computer system. This UPS has the advantages of high efficiency of backup UPS and high quality of online UPS power supply, but its frequency stability is not very ideal, and it is not suitable for long delay UPS power supply.
3. Performance parameters of UPS power supply
Wide input range of municipal voltage indicates strong utilization ability of municipal power (reducing battery discharge). The small range of output voltage and frequency indicates that it has strong ability to adjust municipal power and stable output. The waveform distortion rate is used to measure the stability of the output voltage waveform, while the voltage stability indicates the stability of the output voltage when UPS suddenly increases from zero load to full load. Moreover, UPS efficiency, power factor and conversion time are all important parameters to characterize the performance of UPS, which determine the protection capacity of load and the utilization rate of electricity. The better the performance, the stronger the protection ability.
